John Brady, President
Mr. Brady grew up in Steubenville, Ohio where he attended St. Anthony's grade school. Showing a natural talent for art, the teachers allowed Mr. Brady to teach art to his fellow students throughout grade school. All through grade school and high school, John used his talent with art to his advantage. When it came time to choose a college, it was natural to pursue art as a career. He enrolled in Carnegie Mellon University as a design major.
Mr. Brady graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in design in 1975. His career began with an internship at KDKA-TV that eventually became a full time job after graduation. While at KDKA, John created on air graphics for the prime time news programs.
He went on to work with several other Pittsburgh firms including Creative Productions, Creamer Advertising, and Adam, Fillippo and Moran. These assignments gave him a wide range of knowledge and experience from advertising to exhibit design to corporate identity and packaging.
This broad design experience enabled him to begin his own firm and in 1981, he founded John Brady Design Consultants. Unlike most art studios of the time, John Brady Design Consultants created communications direct for corporate clients versus advertising agencies. Early clients included Alcoa Building Products, PPG Industries and H.H. Robertson.
In 1997, John recognized the growing importance of the Internet as a communications tool and expanded the firm's expertise into web and interactive media. Today, the firm's services range from branding and identity to web development and interactive systems.
Mr. Brady has served on the Board of Directors for The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the American Institute of Graphic Arts/Pittsburgh, The March of Dimes, Business Marketing Association/Pittsburgh and Abraxas Foundation. John has been a juror for American Advertising Federation's Addy competition, lectured at the Carnegie Mellon Tepper School and served on the Mead Design Council.
He has been published in an educational textbook about effective communications and has been featured in numerous books and magazines about interactive design, electronic publishing, paper specification and environmental issues. John's views on the design industry have been included in HOW Magazine, Graphic Design:usa, Presentations, Print and Graphics magazines. He has also been quoted on his unique business practices in several magazines and newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal.
In addition to managing the firm, John is still an active designer. His work has been shown in many major graphic design publications including AIGA Design Journal, Communications Arts, Creativity Annual, American Corporate Identity, AR100, Creativity, and Graphics. It has also been added to a permanent collection at The Center of Design - James Lemont Fogg Memorial Library in Pasadena, California.
He resides in McCandless Township, Pennsylvania with his wife Maureen, and children Ryan, Lauren and Kristen. In his free time, John enjoys woodworking and water gardening.
